America Ferrera, Simu Liu and Greta Gerwig at the BARBIE London Photo Call

Alright, for really-reals, this is probably the final Barbie promo tour post. We’ve wrung every last bit of content out of it and it’s time to put these final three looks out to pasture, good and judged. Before the strike was called, a small group of castmembers met with director Greta Gerwig for the second London photo call and we managed to squeeze three posts out of it, rather shamelessly we might add. You can check our what Margot Robbie wore and what Issa Rae wore for the occasion if you haven’t done so yet. The choices got a little goofy for this one and we wonder if everyone wasn’t running out of steam a little.

For instance, why on earth would you pear a thick beige belt with a high-waisted, pleated pair of black pants and a black bustier? It’s not a great look either way, largely because that top looks cheap and the proportions aren’t great, but why would you want to break up a look visually like that – and at the worst spot for it? Her hair and earrings are incredible, though.

It’s giving Serious Ken. Tired Ken. It’s fine. The jacket’s really nice and we appreciate how much the men in this cast seem to love necklaces. We’ll never truly love plain black dress pants on a red carpet because it always feels like default choice. They’re like the black pumps of menswear.

We’re always in a weird spot with actor-directors. They have the skills and connections to work a red carpet look, but they’re not promoting their own stardom per se, and a good number of them are actresses, which feels like we’re singling out women directors. We only ever really talk about them on rare occasions and only if they’re making a movie star effort with their style. We’d say she’s been good about straddling that line, wearing notable, photogenic looks that don’t feel quite on the same look-at-me level of the film’s stars. This is cute, but the cut of that jacket is way off.
