Since our collective cultural recognition of nonbinary people exploded in the last decade or so, we’ve been asked many a time what constitutes “nonbinary style.” We struggled to answer it a few times until we realized two things. First, as much as we’d like to think we’re the arbiters of all things style-related, we’re not the people to impose some sort of definition here, and second, nonbinary style is whatever nonbinary people wear. In fact, the more we thought about it, the more we realized that trying to impose a definition on something that is, by definition not supposed to be easily categorized is silly. Having said that, this is probably what most people like to think of as nonbinary style (those people likely to think about such things, that is) because it incorporates traditionally masculine and feminine style tropes in one look. Granted, this one skews way more femme, but things like the flat top and the flared pants are welcome surprises. We love this look, although we have to admit that we’re not as in love with the color as we are with the design. The flamboyant neckline and the hip-giving train are fabulous. The hair and the stacked chokers take it to another level entirely. They look amazing and they look like they know it.
