In our continuing quest to help Toni Collette find a style that works for her (a task she never actually asked us to do for her, but since when has that stopped us?), we feel duty-bound once again to do her a solid and commend her for having a little fun with things. As you might remember, we tend to think her style preferences skew toward the twee and ruffled, which is not a style that suits her all that well, in our opinion. She’s so fun and creative as an actress and we don’t think that necessarily comes across in her promo style. You might be looking at the above shot and wondering why we’re featuring her in another ruffled dress, but this one’s all about the scrolldown.
An unexpected surprise! Do we love the dress? Do we think those sneakers are the best kind to pair with it? No and no! But it’s fun and she’s definitely in the right place for it. WWHL is the least fashiony of the late night talk shows. Obviously, it’s a good idea to show up with a look ready to serve because laid back or not, it’s still a television appearance, but Andy Cohen’s little kaffeeklatsch is like a talk show being held in someone’s basement (we were supposed to tend bar for an episode during our last book tour but a weensy little global pandemic put the kibosh on that plan) so this feels perfectly appropriate. We still don’t like the dress, though.
