A trio of highly celebrated Black actresses came out for the African-American Film Critics Awards and to no one’s surprise (no one who follows these sorts of things, that is), they all served looks. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Angela Bassett, Till star Danielle Deadwyler and The Woman King star Viola Davis took little victory laps and looked pretty great doing it.

It seems pretty clear that Miss Angela likes herself a somewhat basic garment with one over-the-top exuberant detail. We suppose you could look at that massive bath mat and conclude that she ruined a perfectly good suit with it. We’ve certainly made our dislike of marabou feather details more than evident of late. And yet we think this is kind of fun and striking. The suit alone might have seemed a little casual, but the feather piece dresses it up. We tend to think you need to be Angela Bassett to really make a detail like this work.

Never would’ve pegged this for Versace. It’s simply, but surprisingly interesting to look at. As we always say, if you’re going to wear black on the red carpet, at least make it interesting. Her hair looks gorgeous We’d have liked a bit more in the way of jewelry.

This is a cute little frock, but the needed a little more support and structure. We can understand the thinking behind a pair of black pumps here, what with all the black in the textile, but the style of dress practically begs for a sandal.
