Lupita took us on a journey. When we first saw this look last night, we both thought it had a spectacular high impact, which is practically a given when a dark-skinned woman puts on a white gown. Then we talked it out and discovered that we were in agreement on the idea that it was kind of a disappointment. Then we woke up this morning and both said we’d changed our minds again. We’re back to spectacular. She never left it.
The braiding and the cutouts – two elements we tend not to love – were what threw us off, we think. But the shape is dramatic and the design has a regal quality to it. That shell tiara is gorgeous and the whole look works mainly because it’s her wearing it. We’re surprised to admit that we like the brown runway version even more than this, but the white really pops for red carpet photos. She looks amazing.
