Ana de Armas hit the Venice Film Festival red carpet for the premiere of the Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde in a gown that evoked two of Marilyn’s most iconic looks of all time. See if you can guess them before scrolling down.
It’s the “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” gown combined with the iconic subway grate dress from The Seven-Year Itch. Normally, we’re not big fans of theme-dressing on the red carpet, but this seems like a nearly inevitable choice. The color looks amazing on her. The design is nice enough, but we really dislike the sash and the fit isn’t as great as it could be. We also tend to think the design would work a little better without the trailing hem. IN terms of styling, while a lot of diamonds also seem kind of inevitable here, we don’t think that choker, gorgeous as it is, sits right with the neckline. We also don’t think the clean face and rather limp hair work with it. You don’t want to lapse into Marilyn drag with a tribute like this, but a little more color and an up do would’ve done a lot.
