Nothing against her style choices or history on the red carpet, but we don’t think it ever occurred to us to use the phrase “effortless glam” to describe a Viola Davis look. And yet here we are, Viola. You looking like you woke up like this and us getting our mouths shut.

It’s a gorgeously simple garment, made much more interesting because of the color and textile, both of which look great on her. We used to be such sticklers about not matching one’s eyeshadow to one’s garment, but more and more lately, we seem compelled to admit that it’s a look that really pops on camera. Of course there’s nothing effortless about this look; not really. From the hair to the makeup to the stiletto heels and boob-wrangling, it’s clear there was work put in here, but that stuff matters much less than the end result, which makes her come off easy-breezy, confident, and not coincidental to those first two qualities, dead sexy.
