We would like to extend our hearty and heartfelt congratulations to Elizabeth Olsen and Rodarte. Not for any awards or praise they may have garnered, but for putting together a look that we know we’re supposed to hate, but is instead fostering the opposite reaction. That’s a wordy and pretentious way of saying that we really like this dress, even though we really hate dresses like this. What can we say? We are large and contain multitudes. Whoops. Got pretentious there again for a second. Let’s judge:
We’ll start right off by saying we don’t love the hem or the shoe choice. Another couple of inches on the former and a pair of sandals for the latter are needed. But everything from the waist up is pretty great. We tend to get really bored with lace and lingerie-inspired styles, but that neckline and those sleeves really work for her. We wonder if she wouldn’t benefit from a little romantic goth in her style a bit more. She’s got the look of a gothic horror heroine about her already. It might be fun to lean into that a bit more. Go and get your Daughter of Dracula drag on, girl. It suits you.
