Brad Pitt, you have earned our respect this week, sir. You have restated and reaffirmed your super-stardom and you used fashion to do it. Respect. All anyone’s been talking about this week are his recent style choices on the Bullet Train promotional tour. His linen skirt suit of earlier this week got a ton of press coverage and when a fashion reporter called us yesterday to ask if we thought he anticipated this frenzied level of attention over one outfit, we all but snorted into the phone. OF COURSE he did. Everyone’s talking about his lightweight suits and his skirt and his generally extremely cazh promo style this week, proving once again that this superstar of three decades has not attained that status by accident.

What makes it so notable is how un-notable his style choices really are. This does look inexplicably great on him, and like most of his looks this week, it has a very studied and curated casualness to it. But it shares the same unlikely quality as all of his much-discussed ensembles this week: it has no notable qualities. It’s barely a step up from hospital scrubs. But it’s purely a flex on his part because he’s saying that he knows he can make this stuff look hot just by wearing it.

PinThis is probably the dressiest thing he’s worn all week but it still has a very studied sort of earthy casualness to it. We’ve been covering him for over a decade and he’s always displayed a certain pretension in his public style, whether he was cosplaying as a grunge band lead singer, a biker gang member, or leaning into the Redford comparisons and giving old school leading man, he’s always understood that the red carpet is about branding and visuals. And he also knows he’s considered good looking enough that he can play around with more casual styles and be applauded for it. Bottom line, he looks great and we don’t think it’s a bad thing that he’s doing it by avoiding traditional menswear suiting as much as possible.
