When it came time to decide on our entries for the Met Gala showdown (ladies division), we each blurted out our nominees and then we both instantly replied “Really? Her?” to the other one. Surprises all around! We contain multitudes, darlings!

Tom’s pick: Lupita Nyong’o in Atelier Versace

T’s Defense: Putting aside how gorgeous she looks – which is admittedly difficult to do because she looks distractingly good – what I love most about this look is how well the concept stays appropriate “Lexicon of American Fashion” theme while the design remains quintessentially Versace. It’s just a really well thought-out look as well as a really well-designed, well-styled, and perfectly modeled one. She looks freaking amazing.

Lorenzo’s pick: Ciara in Dundas

Lo’s Defense: If we’re talking about thematically appropriate looks, then Ciara’s outrageously fabulous salute to team wear couldn’t have been more on point. That it was also a tribute to her husband, whose Super Bowl ring she sported makes it kind of sweet and personal as well. I just love how the color, the shoulders and the graphic elements look so fantastic on her. It’s perhaps the only look of the night that managed to be fabulous, on point, and fun at the same time.
In retrospect, we’re surprised we both picked such theme-based looks, since we’ve been arguing a bit against treating the Met Gala like a costume party, but we can’t deny both ladies looked amazing. Now it’s up to you to be the bad guy and decide which looked the most amazing. Sucks to be you!
