We’ve always loved how Olivia Colman has been able to express a very specific style preference for the red carpet, one that modern high fashion isn’t always great at representing. She likes coverage and she doesn’t like anything too form fitting. She and her style team have been great about finding high-fashion, big-label ways of fulfilling her needs and making her look uniquely stylish in a way that allowed her to stand out. We’re wondering if it really worked this time:
She likes interesting shapes and colors, so this is all pretty much of a piece with her track record. But it looks a bit too much like choir or judge’s robes to us. We don’t mind the orange yoke, but we can’t help thinking a richer color below that would’ve looked more interesting. It’s difficult to see that it’s actually a cape over a dress. We also think this would have been a lot better if it had been floor length and it feels like the jewelry choices are a little too delicate for it. It’s a look that’s halfway to bold but doesn’t quite make it there.
