We know we said that Anya Taylor Joy’s stunning Dior look was our fave of the night, but we have to immediately amend that and name Miss Amanda’s efforts here are co-fave of the night. And let’s just get this out of the way now: the way last night’s fashion went (SPOILER: extremely well), we’re likely to declare a few more faves before the sun sets on this day.
But come on, can you blame us for being fickle in our faves? This look is AMAZING:

In the manner of all smart awards-track actresses, she really stepped up her fashion game this year. In our decade-plus of covering her, we honestly couldn’t give you a cohesive picture of what her style preferences were before this, but it’s notable that she has no disasters in our memory (and we have really good memories for red carpet disasters, trust) and our takeaway has always been that she’s a no-fuss girl who’d rather wear jeans and a sweater and hang out with her dog than spend a lot of time worrying about hauling a train around behind her while in 4-inch heels. We think that may be why this is such a fantastic choice for her. While we have no doubt she submitted herself to a lot of work and discomfort to come out looking this flawless, there’s a toned-down simpleness in the basic design and the highly flattering color. But if you add a garland of would-never-survive-a-limo-ride flowers to encircle the top, you’ve bumped up the drama and glamour considerably. Top it off with some exquisitely tasteful jewelry, gorgeously lacquered hair, and a beat for the gods and you have a goddamn movie star standing before you. Brilliant job all around. She never looked better.
