Golden Globes 2021: “The Queen’s Gambit” Star Anya Taylor-Joy in Christian Dior Couture

We were thrown completely off guard by last night’s Golden Globes and that is a thing that has never happened to us before. While there have been several notable attempts (some of them even successful) to pull off a virtual entertainment awards show, we weren’t exactly looking forward to this year’s Globes ceremony; partly because of pandemic fatigue, but largely because the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was on the receiving end of the most disastrous press of their entire existence, throwing the whole point of the awards themselves into serious question. To be accurate about it, the fact that the ceremony itself was awkward and sometimes even painful to sit through (Who amongst us really wants to turn on the TV to look at a Zoom call in this year of our Lord 2021?) wasn’t what threw us off. Technical glitches, jokes and bits that don’t land, shitty home lighting, and awkward pauses between intercontinental conversations were all expected and all delivered, right on schedule.

What we did not expect – and we say this as shame-faced so-called experts on this topic alone – was all the celebrities (almost all, anyway) showing up for their Zoom calls or socially distanced presentations in quite literally the best celebrity fashion we’ve seen in an entire year. Our content cups runneth over because the stars, perhaps good and tired of sitting at home in yoga pants or perhaps sensing that America needed some sparkle at this time, gave us the biggest parade of glitz and glamour these tired old eyes have seen in far too long. And to kick off our extensive (and highly opinionated) coverage, we’ve got to start with our favorite look of the night.

This, darlings, is what we in the blogging biz call “a SERVE.”

We don’t even know what we can say here. This is flawless; from style to color to textile to execution – every single part of this is absolutely perfect for her and makes for a drop-dead, totally unforgettable fashion moment. In this weird time, home-based red carpet options really have to punch through the screen and grab you by the throat in order to stand out. She and her team (including stylist Law Roach) leaned into the drama of her own looks and accentuated them by making a series of perfect choices. LOVE the hair, LOVE the necklace, LOVE that shade of green on her. And while we’ve spent most of our critiquing career bemoaning matchy-match outfits, we think the fully coordinated ensemble works best here. She looks freaking amazing.
