We picture SJP getting up in the morning and intoning to an empty room, “I will sell a pair of shoes today,” with conviction, just before she heads to her closet to pick out an outfit. She’s been one of the few celebs stepping out in style lately, largely because her flagship shoe store has opened and a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to keep a retail venture afloat in these uncertain times. You won’t hear us complaining.
It’s a really cute, sort of approachably relatable (she clearly wants to be able to interact with potential customers and there are pics of her actually helping some try on shoes) sort of dress. She’s counting on the press to be there but she doesn’t want to come off too high-fashion. This helps straddle the line nicely by being photogenic and stylish, but also looking like something you’d see on the sidewalks of New York a dozen times an hour on a normal August weekday. The shoes (which are clearly designed to remind you of Carrie Bradshaw’s most famous pair of Manolo Blahnicks) don’t go with the dress at all, though. And we’re finally going to cross this Rubicon and make it the new normal: Her mask doesn’t go either. Bear in mind that no one out in the so-called real world should be assessed on their maskcessorizing skills, we think if celebs are going to dress up for the cameras, they should consider thinking of them like they would any other accessory. The closest analogy would probably be a scarf. Does this dress call for a black lace scarf? Not remotely. And to be perfectly blunt, it kinda looks like she’s got a pair of panties on her face.
