Darlings, fate robbed us all of what would have surely been one of the highlights of our year, the press tour for Hulu’s Mrs. America. This show’s cast is composed almost entirely of red carpet heavy hitters: Blanchett, Paulson, Aduba, Banks,Nash, and Byrne, which means Ocean’s 8 levels of red carpet excellence has been lost to us.. Oh, it would have been glorious, kittens; equal parts of chic elegance and bold WTFery, we have no doubt. This week, we’re putting our can-do attitude and American know-how to work by staging our own damn press tour. And also to pit the looks against each other just to give you all something to do. We’re thoughtful that way.
THE CATEGORY IS… UNBALANCED LADIES:
The Good Lady Cate comes at us all askew. The print is dramatic, the colors are photogenic and the basic style suits her – but is all that unbalance really working for her? Does the hair enhance the look or tip the theme over too far? Should she have worn her hair in the opposite direction to the dress, if you know what we mean? Is this fabulous on its own or is GLC making it more fabulous? So many thoughts to consider as we move on to our next unbalanced gal.
We will admit there’s an obsessively nitpicky part of ourselves that really, really wishes the clutch was either black or held in the other hand all night. Like Cate’s, the look here is off-balance, with a hairstyle to match the dress. She looks great in these old-school gowns and the severity of the hair really freshens up the look. We’re a bit surprised by how good she looks in that yellow, which is a tough color to pull off. Not sure the earrings really go with the rest of the look, though.
So, which wildly unbalanced woman is winning you over?
