In which Good Lady Cate finds she cannot overcome an overwhelming design element. Or maybe that’s just us and she’s feeling this one. Given how well and how hard she works most lewks, it’s hard to tell with her. But it’s definitely not working for us:
First, that is a very dumb way to do a one sleeve dress. We’re on record as not loving this sort of design in almost any instance, but the severity of the mismatch in this cast – the difference in armholes, the accentuated shoulder on her right side, the shape and length of the sleeve – it’s all just too much for us to get past. And it seriously does not help that her team gave her a matching asymmetrical hairstyle. If anything, they should’ve flipped it so the longer side was on her left.
It’s a shame, because the rest of the gown is gorgeous. The pleating work is seriously stunning – and so well done that you have to actually peer at the gown to find it. One final nitpick: the print looks beautiful and sophisticated from ten feet away but we were disappointed when we saw it close up.
