On paper, Miss Laura’s doing it all correctly. You snag that Oscar nom and you immediately line up some big names like Prada and Stella to see you through the next few high-profile red carpets. In reality, however, mistakes were made.

And here they all are. All the mistakes, in one perfectly mistaken choice. We won’t linger too long on this one, partially because it’s so obviously a nearly impossible dress, but mostly because she looks like she knows it and she looks kinda pissed about it. We don’t blame her. That thing looks like it weighs 50 pounds and left little dents on her ass all night. That aside, it’s just such an awkward and unflattering design. It looks pretty enough up top, but that hem situation is awful and the shapelessness does nothing for her. Moving on…

… to greener pastures. This is nearly perfect for her. We’ve always said it: playing up her tall angularity in Joan Crawford-esque retro gown is exactly the way to go.  We’re not in love with the curve of the neckline or how the chain midriff doesn’t line up as well as it could. We also think she could’ve gone for some showier, more glam jewelry. Even so, this is one of her best efforts this season and we hold out hope she shows up on Oscar night in full Crawford glam style.
