We suppose a dress choice like this is inevitable if you’re a member of the cast of Little Women on the film’s promotional tour.
We wouldn’t say it exactly plays to the book’s themes and motifs, though. It’s way more “English period romantic drama” in tone, like something Keira Knightley would have worn back when she was the queen of that sort of thing. But it’s certainly got that old-fashioned femininity thing going on like gangbusters. The sheer skirt adds the modernity a dress like this often needs in order to prevent it from looking like a costume, but we can’t say it’s a design choice that fills us with joy – especially since the bodice has enough of a modern feel to it. It looks a little better on the runway, where the white underskirt is hitting the model much lower. There really is a lot to like about this dress, but that white mini-skirt is just a bit too distracting. And the shoes aren’t such a hot choice either.
