It’s a family affair as the two Battling Duchesses face off in public for the first time since the last time they did! Or whatever. The point is, the ladies stepped out to celebrate Pop-in-Law’s half-century of Officially Waiting His Turn – in high style! Or at least very good mid-day style.
The way we see it, the issue with Megs’ public style is that she gets very hung up on certain elements or details and she winds up over-applying them or not holding back on them for the right time or outfit. In other words, girlfriend loves herself some putty-colored pumps and she’s been pairing them, as she’s done here, with ensembles that don’t do much for them – or vice versa. The dress is gorgeous and the coat looks great over it, but the shoes and the clutch are total needle scratches. Who adds beige and taupe to a silver-gold-white color story?
Mrs. Cathy stuck to her go-to sort of look. She’s apparently cycling through mint green in her color rotation, since this is the second time in a week she’s worn the shade. It’s fine. Very prim, proper and photogenic. The Three Ps of Royal Dressing. She also has something of an addiction to cream pumps, but we’d argue they work slightly better with this dress. She’s coming close to wearing this color into the ground herself, but at least she’s not falling back on super-matchy pumps anymore. Still, we tend to think a darker green would have been a more dramatic color.
This concludes this morning’s edition of Royal Pump Talk.
