We gave Teyana and the Queen their own spotlight posts, but it’s time to round up all the tacky outfit-wearers at the American Music Awards and patiently explain to them how and why they got their looks wrong. Haha, just kidding. Let’s be bitches about it.

We love the top half. It couldn’t possibly suit her any better. We’re far less in love with the skirt, which comes off kind of shapeless, or those high-vamp pumps, which look silly with it. If ever an outfit begged for boots…

Meh. It’s a nice suit which he tried to make appear cooler than it is by styling it down.
Bebe Rexha in Jean Paul Gaultier
As much as we dislike tricky, asymetrcial skirts, we have to admit this design is appropriate for the setting and works for her, although the rest of the styling lets it down.
Chrissy Teigen (in Raisa Vanessa) and John Legend
They look like they’re here to chaperone the kids, which is a bitchy way of saying that they look very nice, if a little conventional.
EJAE in Mugler
Stunning. Love the gloves, hate the shoes.
GloRilla in Baba Jane
We don’t blame her for wanting to show off the results, but those pool noodles are goofy as hell.

It’s not really the right time of year for a leather jacket, but this is a nice one.
Jordan Chiles in Rahul Mishra
Just in terms of the basic overall style, it comes off a little business-y, albeit with a ton of beading. Still, that’s a pretty great jacket. We’re just not feeling the black pants.

Sure. Fine. It’s tacky, but it’s right for the setting and the design of that top is legitimately eye-catching. It would look better with jeans.
Katseye in McQueen
From the left: It’s okay, but that skirt looks like toilet paper; we’re already tired of these McQueen corset tops but she’s wearing this one well, although white sandals seem like an odd choice; this whole look is coming at you straight from 1998; hate the skirt; one of the better leather dresses we’ve seen lately but the shoes look strange with it.
Maluma in BOSS
He’s clearly in his gray suit era. We don’t mind it, although we could do without that thing on his lapel.
Mariah The Scientist
Meh. Seems like a confused design. We don’t think the military style jacket can be sexed up and we don’t think it looks right over a satin column skirt.
Megan Stalter and Paul W. Downs
The schtick has worn incredibly thin.
Melanie Martinez
This is mean, but we burst out laughing at this and we don’t think we need to say another thing about it. The ultimate in Fashion Victimwear.
Natalie Alyn Lind in Sergio Hudson
It’s way too fashion doll-matchy for our tastes, but we can’t say she looks bad.
Nikki Glaser in Maria Lucia Hohan
Bad, unflattering cutouts and an insipid non-color.
Paula Abdul in Michael Costello
It’s too much and it’s definitely tacky, but it’s not boring. Michael Costello came up to us during Fashion Week the year he was on Project Ruway and said loudly “WHY DO YOU HATE ME SO MUCH?!” which is something we still laugh about.

Big style shift for her! The skirt is cute but the bust is awful.

Can’t get mad at this look when it’s done well and it’s on the right wearer. Could do without the ostrich boots, however.

Another lovely look for next February. Kids, it’s summer. You don’t have to wear bright colors or skimpy outfits, but dressing like it’s the dead of winter is depressing.
