Amber Heard continues her theme-based promotional cosplay approach to the Aquaman poledance. For the UK premiere, she served up high-fashion synchronized-swimmer couture. For the LA premiere, she went for a harder approach: the “soaking wet and caught in a net” look:
But as much as we tend to wrinkle our nose at red carpet cosplay or style choices that are a bit too thematically on-the-nose, we have to begrudgingly admit that this is all working pretty well. It’s a strong look and a memorable one. It’s a look with more than a bit owed to the 1980s, which is a decade she’s particularly well-suited for. Sure, the jewelry pays too much of an homage to her film costume and tends to support the “caught in a net” feel of the look. And we don’t think this gown is particularly fresh on its own merits. But as a head-to-toe, fully conceptualized look, it’s the total package. Memorable, on point, synergistic with the project being promoted and very well-suited to the wearer. Can’t really find fault with any of it, even if parts aren’t entirely to our tastes.
