We briefly interrupt the nearly wall-to-wall gownery of Cannes to bring you some good old-fashioned celebrity product-hawking, courtesy of those fictional Crawley sisters. Said product being the newly released Downton Abby: A New Era, which its creators have promised to be the launching point of a whole Downton Cinematic Universe. Sounds exhausting, but at least the cast are getting their coins and their spotlight time out of it.

In a way, it’s almost unfair to be featuring these shots because the video from the Today show depicts them in a much better light. Still, even under the optimal lighting conditions of a television studio, we think they’re both a little better off in colors and contrast. And there is no magic lighting that will make us love some of these design elements. Michelle’s jacket overwhelms her and pairs really badly with that satin skirt, we don’t care what the fine people at Givenchy say. Laura’s whole look is too boxy and weirdly shaped. She also appears to be wearing a mesh top underneath. That is too terrible for words, kittens. Also, their footwear choices are too focus-pulling and look like huge pains in the ass to walk in.
