Keke Palmer engaged in some serious theme-dressing to perform her new single “125 Degrees” on The Tonight Show, choosing to sport an archival Versace dress that positively reeks of early aughts style tropes.
It’s giving 2004 VMAs (derogatory) but if you’re going to sing a heat-themed song, a flame-themed frock must seem like a no-brainer. It’s perfect as stagewear and of course it suits her personality to a T, but if we’re being honest, we have to admit that we think it’s a pretty ugly design. It’s okay, if a little overembellished, from the waist up, but everything below that is overwrought and a little clumsy-looking and the color story is kind of harsh. We might have been okay with all of those flounces at the hem if it were raised by a couple of inches. The sandals are really fun and totally Keke but they’re a bit much with the dress. Then again, “a bit much” is pretty much her thing.
