Bella Ramsey came to the photo call and premiere of their film Sunny Dancer at the Berlin International Film Festival and we’re thrilled about two things. First, that they’re going to have a career outside of buzzy HBO dramas, which are, interestingly enough, not the best launchpads to stardom when you think about the casts of some of their biggest shows. The second, shallower thing that thrills us is their ever-evolving red carpet style, which is always thoughtful and expressive.

We try not to over emphasize this sort of thing, but it’s important to note that queer people often have a deeply personal relationship with presentation, which means a love of fashion for a lot of us but can also mean the adherence to a uniform or a set of elements that signal who we are. We’ve always said that it’s not for us to define what constitutes nonbinary style or modes of presentation — because of course plenty of nonbinary people don’t really signal that aspect of themselves at all through their clothing. But we do love to see someone finding interesting ways of expressing it on the red carpet. We don’t think Bella picks everything with the distinct goal of making any sort of statement, but we do think their style is expressive of who they are and how they want to be seen. That jacket is just plain cool, and one of the more interesting ways to sport a floral pattern we’ve ever seen. Love the shoes. We’ll let the white socks slide.

The hair they’ve been sporting lately is really cute and feels specific to them, which is what we guess we’re trying to convey about Bella’s style. Here, they’re butching the look up a little, which is kind of fun to see. The vest looks great but we don’t like the neckline. Love the one ring, but we think they could’ve loaded the hands up with more rings, rockstar style.
