Going by her choices for the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards and Critics Choice Awards over the weekend, Hamnet star Jessie Buckley has seemingly settled on a sensible pants sort of style for awards season.

It’s giving “mom in a ’90s comedy movie” and no, that’s not really a compliment. Putting aside that the multiple tops wind up looking lumpy and ill-fitting, the print is fairly harsh and ugly. There’s nothing wrong with pairing a simple shift top with a pair of black pants, but both the top and the pants have to be impeccable in order for it to be red carpet ready. This comes off sloppy and too casual for the setting. Her hair looks great, though.

She sure loves herself a pair of plain black pants. Again, the top is dramatic but its undercut by the odd lumpiness of the design. It just looks like a gigantic piece of fabric she wrapped around herself and tied off. We suppose that’s the point of it, but it just looks like plain top with delusions of grandeur over an even more plain pair of pants. And it doesn’t look like Dior at all.
