As we’ve noted a time or two before, Elle Fanning’s main style approaches are twee princess or vintage high fashion and she’s very good at working both. Unfortunately, going by her look for the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards, it may not be a good idea for her to try working both at the same time.

Girl, that is one sad-looking frock. The color looks good on her, but nothing about the design appeals. The neckline is too stiff and the bust design is unflattering in a distorting sort of way. It looks wrinkled and puckered everywhere and that sad little belt is doing nothing to help pull the look together. It’s a sort of pretty skirt topped off by an overdesigned bodice that ruins the look. We were thinking of putting this one up to a vote, but once we got a good look at it, we figured it would wind up being a blood bath. Elle, burn this.
