Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega and Catherine Zeta-Jones got in a little mother-daughter bonding time as they both attended the For Your Consideration event.

They chose not to indulge in theme-dressing for the occasion and for that, we thank them. Besides, there are only so many ways you can work a goth look for the red carpet without repeating yourself and any actress tasked with playing Morticia probably wants to avoid slinky black gowns for the next ten years.
JENNA ORTEGA IN MCQUEEN

This is great. We hate the corset laces hanging out, which just looks stupid, but it may surprise you to hear that we like the raw edge of the jacket. It lends the look a punk vibe and works well with the cropped length, The corset thing is kind of dumb, but we mind it less here than when Charlize wore it. Something about the juxtaposition with the punk-lite suiting makes it work this time.
CATHERINE ZETA-JONES IN MAGDA BUTRYM (DRESS)

The dress looks pretty great on her, even though we don’t love the shape or style of it. We fully support anyone who wants a little extra coverage or doesn’t think their main garment works without adding a layer, but throwing a black blazer on over a dress that wasn’t designed for it never looks right. It always looks like a last-second course correction.
