Colman Domingo is very good about using fashion to sell an image or to send a message. We’re actually a little sad to be facing an awards season where he isn’t actively campaigning for a trophy, not just because the man deserves one, but because when he’s not gunning for an Oscar, the looks tend to be a bit disappointing. On the other hand, a bad red carpet outing for Colman Domingo tends to be better than 95% of his peers. Still, we feel a little disappointed by his choice of outfit for the premiere of Dead Man’s Wire:

This just doesn’t say “I’m exciting about this picture and I can’t wait for you to see it” so much as it says, “We good here?” We don’t know… it’s certainly not a terrible look. The boots alone make it worthy of praise. But it does feel kind of half-assed and thrown together compared to some of his more dazzling looks. It’s the jewelry that really makes the look, because the garments are kind of forgettable.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
His revolution was televised. Meet Tony Kiritsis in the official trailer for Gus Van Sant’s ‘Dead Man’s Wire,’ starring Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery, Colman Domingo, Cary Elwes, Myha’la, and Al Pacino. Now playing in select cities and everywhere starting January 16.
Based on a true story, the 1977 kidnapping of a prominent banker grips the nation and turns the abductor into an outlaw folk hero. As the media frenzy peaks, the standoff becomes a spectacle of desperation, defiance and blurred justice, which resonates even today.
The screenwriting debut of Austin Kolodney, Dead Man’s Wire features commanding performances from its ensemble cast: Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery, Colman Domingo, Cary Elwes, Myha’la and Al Pacino. An equally impressive ensemble behind the camera includes cinematographer Arnaud Potier, production designer Stefan Dechant, composer Danny Elfman, costume designer Peggy Schnitzer, make-up department head Debbie Zoller, hair department head Vito Trotta, sound team Leslie Shatz and Derek Sepe and film editor Saar Klein.
