The cast of The Diplomat came out to the New York Tastemaker Event for season 3 in mostly tasteful clothing, as befits the theme. Let’s see who failed at the task, shall we? For bitchy reasons.
Ali Ahn

It’s October in New York. It hasn’t been too cold lately, but this still looks way off-season and out of place. It’s a dress for high summer or hot weather. It’s cute enough, we guess, but it just looks weird here, where most of her co-stars are wearing coats and jackets. At the very least, a darker color – or even black – might have helped.
Ato Essandoh

This is gorgeous. We think the pants would work better with a fuller cut and we’d have like a little contrast in the tie/shirt choices, but it’s a really stylish and eye-catching look.
Keri Russell

LOVE this. The shoes are a little nutty, and we’d prefer the sleeves didn’t have those cutesy little ties, but this is so well-suited to her and feels breezily sophisticated.
Allison Janney in Toni Maticevski

Eleganza for days. As always. Still, the bodice is a little out of proportion and the hem length is awkward.
Bradley Whitford

Bleh. We’re sure his co-stars love him and blah blah blah, but it’s disrespectful as hell to show up looking so casual when you know they’re all going to be putting way more effort in. Also, that jacket is stupid.
David Gyasi

It’s such a gorgeously sharp and powerfully head-turning sort of look. You can’t not notice him and he looks great in it. Our only quibble is that the print textile looks a little wallpapery.

ABOUT SEASON 3:
In Season Three of THE DIPLOMAT, Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want. She just accused Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) of hatching a terrorist plot and admitted she’s after the VP’s job. But now the President is dead, Kate’s husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) may have inadvertently killed him, and Grace Penn is leader of the free world. None of this slows Hal’s campaign to land Kate the vice presidency. Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford).
