Two things about Bryce Dallas Howard: The first is that she’s become a very well-regarded television director over the last few years and now that she’s moved into the documentary space, she’s preparing her first feature film. The second thing, which is admittedly not as important, is that she’s always had a somewhat questionable red carpet history. But as she made the rounds in New York to promote Pets, we were pleasantly surprised to see that she stepped up her game on that front.
Personally, light brown skirts with dogs and horses on them sound like a terrible idea to us, but she mentioned on her Instagram that she’s deliberately wearing animal-themed outfits every day. We tend not to like method-dressing, but that’s kind of adorable. Also pretty cute, to our surprise, is that skirt. The whole look works pretty well except for the mesh. It wouldn’t be her if there wasn’t one goofy detail.
This is the kind of look that would normally have us sharpening our claws before tucking in because it feels not just very preciously twee, but also a little too basic for promo work. But the sweater is genuinely cute and the jeans look great on her. We’d have rec’d a pair of boots instead of those kitten heels and a darker coat so that applique on the sweater pops more.
