To us, the funniest thing about King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands is that they have total Game of Thrones names, but they always look like a couple of tourists. They continued their tour of Kenya, visiting the Inland Container Depot in Naivasha, where she wore something quietly restrained and regal once again. Haha, no she didn’t.
We once criticized Princess Catherine for dressing like a tourist whenever she goes on a Commonwealth tour, in the sense that she dressed in the types of things she’d never have worn on UK soil. But as far as we can tell, Maxima dresses like this all the time. The dress is great, but once again, she got a little aggressive with the accessories. You can have the big straw hat or the doorknocker earrings, but both at the same time are too much. The belt is terrible. Later, she got fancy at the state banquet at State House in Nairobi, where she served up something we’re pretty sure we’ve never actually seen on this blog before.
A royal scrolldown surprise! Never got that with our Cathy and Meghan coverage. It’s a pretty skirt, in an unusual way. The blue looks gorgeous and of course it coordinates well with the jewelry, but we really don’t like how flimsy and unresolved it is. It literally looks shoved into the skirt. That brooch is a stunner, but it doesn’t look right worn at the waist.
