As “Ology” posts go, this may be the easiest one we’ve ever written. There’s certainly no mystery surrounding Wicked star and Best Supporting Actress nominee Ariana Grande’s awards season game plan. She all but announced it when she presented at last year’s Oscars. Glinda cosplay was the order of the day, to our eternal chagrin. But it may surprise you to note that she didn’t actually spend the entire year in poofy pink gowns. Sometimes she wore poofy green ones and sometimes they were pink and not poofy at all. For good or for ill, she opted to stick pretty closely to method dressing all year long.

To be fair, she managed to work some interesting variations on the theme. We’re opposed to theme-dressing generally because it’s not about style, it’s about marketing. But in her case, we’re especially opposed to it because – irony of ironies – she happens to look terrible in pink. As for predictions, well, there’s the obvious one. It remains to be seen if she’s going to go that route or if she’s going to break out of this rut. One thing’s for sure: she’ll be sporting one tight-ass ponytail.
