After an insanely long hiatus even by modern television standards, Severance is finally returning for a second season. Star Adam Scott stopped by The Late Show to chat up the show’s return with Stephen Colbert and he chose a totally un-Severance-like ensemble for the occasion.

We are of two minds about this. On the one hand, we’re thrilled that he’s clearly avoiding businesslike clothing as strenuously as possible. It’s a suit, but it couldn’t be less corporate in style. On the other hand, corduroy suits are not our favorite thing in the world. Much like suede or leather, we feel that corduroy is either something you wear on the top or the bottom of your outfit, but rarely works as the entire outfit. In other words, we love ourselves a corduroy sportscoat or pair of pants, but we wouldn’t want to wear them both at the same time. We’re also of two minds regarding the color story here. It’s interesting and unexpected, which means we are compelled to like it, but… we don’t actually like these colors on him. To be fair, we don’t think we’d like them on anyone. And finally, to complete our nitpickery, nothing will make a well-considered outfit look a little bit less so than a glimpse of your undershirt. We honestly think we might be inclined to reverse all of our previous complaints if he’d just ditch the Hanes top. Also, this outfit screams for boots.
