Emily Blunt stopped by the Women in Cinema gala at the Red Sea Film Festival to disappoint us. Since we’re about to be a little mean about her choices, we’re going to be big-hearted and generous in the manner you’ve come to expect and allow you guys the final say.
On the matter of gowns with capes, we tend to feel the same way we do about opera coats. They’re not bad, but they’re too often used to lend quick drama to a basic look. In our opinion, this is just about the most glaring example of that. The dress has almost nothing going on. The spaghetti straps and cord sash make it look flimsy. The cape is lovely, but the string tie absolutely ruins it, especially the way it trails down the front, intersecting the waist sash. To put that stunning diamond collar ON TOP of that shoelace is honestly a dealbreaker for us. We didn’t like this look aside from that detail, but it tips over in truly awful territory with that one choice. There. You got read, girl. We’ll pass the spirit stick to the other cheerleaders now.
