You heard us! OPINIONS! We are, after all, known for having them. Your manly hosts have never seen the Wicked musical, nor have we made it a point to learn or listen to any of the songs (aside from “Defying Gravity,” which is about as easy to avoid as “Happy Birthday” or “Jingle Bells”), which means we went into this film completely cold. While some of our opinions might sound dismissive to longtime fans of the show, we think it’s helpful to unpack whether the story or the character beats resonated with two people who weren’t familiar with either (although Tom did read the book several decades back).
PLUS: We have MUCH to say about FX/Hulu’s searing mini-series about The Troubles in Northern Ireland, Say Nothing. And we even managed to work in a review of the somewhat lackluster Dune: Prophecy.
