The stars came our for the Cannes Film Festival premiere of The Man I Love in some fairly impressive looks, which we will now rip to shreds with our mean words.

It’s a design that’s trying to do too much. The neckline is elegant, but everything gets incredibly awkward around the waist. The skirt is pretty, but the way it’s married to the bodice couldn’t be more terrible. It’s to her credit that she’s almost making this work.

It’s okay. The “necktie” is kind of dumb, and we suspect it was meant to be tied like a tie. The earrings are amazing.

HALSEY IN VIVIENNE WESTWOOD

She keeps going for these hellaciously overwrought and tacky dresses that don’t suit her at all. If you removed all of the black elements, this would be vastly improved, but it still wouldn’t look great on her. We kinda like the hair and makeup, but they only tend to highlight how stale the dress is.

Flawless and he knows it.

RUTH NEGGA IN LOEWE

Talk about an unresolved design. It’s like they just wandered away from the dress form and forgot about it. The color’s kind of nice but those half-assed sleeves are terrible and she DESPERATELY  needs to fire her makeup team.

TOM STURRIDGE IN DIOR

For a standard tuxedo, it’s almost impressive the number of ways he’s wearing it wrong: collar, cuffs and scarf all look goofy as hell. Stylists and guystars keep trying to figure out a way to make classic men’s formalwear edgier, but it really was designed to be worn one way and when it is, it’s universally flattering. Stop trying to be cute about it.
