America’s Princess Kim Kardashian paid tribute to her forebear Princess Diana by gingerly nestling the late Princess of Wales’ least favorite piece of jewelry upon her perpetually shiny breasts. There. We will almost certainly not compose a better opening sentence than that one for the rest of the week.

The reality star/actress/businesswoman attended the LACMA Art + Film Gala and took the opportunity to show off her latest acquisition of a greater dead woman’s iconography, the amethyst and diamond cross pendant Diana reportedly only wore once in public, in 1987. As a way of trying to capture the late princess’s glamour and essence, this piece tends to make a poor choice, partially because no one really associates this one with any of her iconic looks. Most Diana-watchers consider it an outlier. It never really represented her style, which is probably why she almost never wore it. The dress and coat are fine; practically demure for her, but the pendant should be worn alone. All that other stuff around her neck just distracts from it and besides, it’s a fairly gaudy piece.
