Because no one in their right mind would choose this dress to wear on the night in question. And we use the word “dress” in the loosest possible manner, because “irregular swatch of ugly fabric thrown over a two-piece” just doesn’t roll off the tongue. This is also why we didn’t tend to lean too hard into the idea that she was always dressing weirdly in homage to her Poor Things character. The lady just likes to wear weird shit and it’s time we all understood that. You don’t show up on Oscar night in two borderline hideous dresses unless you really want to wear those hideous dresses.
