The dullest Oscar campaign in Hollywood history continues as Maestro star and Best Actress nominee Carey “Mother Superior” Mulligan unveils yet another nun look on The Tonight Show. We’re being mean. There’s no rule that says you’ve got to pile on the head-turning couture and photogenic glam in order to be considered for an Oscar, of course. But we feel like, if you are going to do the campaigning thing, which is what this appearance is all about, why would you want your outfits to be so generic and forgettable? We suppose we should give her credit for deploying one shocking new element in her style:

A visible zipper. Unfortunately it’s the only interesting part of the design and it’s actually kind of dumb. She doesn’t look bad, just completely forgettable, which kind of works against the whole point of a talk show appearance. There are so many unfussy, minimalist styles she could wear without coming off so prim and boring.
