Golden Globes 2024: Ladies in Red

There was a small smattering of pink and one really notable green, but for the most part, the 2024 Golden Globes was a colorless affair, except for that one perennial go-to, the bold red frock.

The dress is lovely, a perfectly elegant minimalist design with a retro feel. While we have quibbles with the hem length, what really lets this look down is the styling. The face is clean, the hair is casual, the shoes are basic and she needs more jewelry.

This is fun and could’ve been sexy-fabulous, but she clearly needs a good deal more support than this design can provide for her. Just making the bust tight is not gonna do it.

This one just didn’t work for us. The color looks great on her but the dress design is a little… we don’t know… conventional? We don’t want to call a panty-baring, free-the-nip dress “mumsy” but without the sheerness or the plunging neckline, we think that descriptor would be just about right. Maybe if she’d sported a more conventional hairstyle this would work, but ultimately, it just doesn’t feel like her dress.

A nice reminder that Die Heidster can do classic elegance without a hint of tacky when she wants to.

The dress is fantastic. The necklace is pretty great too, but it feels like the wrong choice. A pendant would have been our suggestion. We also would have told her to do something more with her hair because she looks like she just pulled it back in order to do some cleaning or something.

Can’t argue with any of that. She looks spectacular. It’s a relatively minor issue, but we’d have thought “nude” underwear was a given for a dress like this.

We named this as one of the worst of the night in our Cosmopolitan writeup, although we’re softening our stance a little because she’s clearly loving this dress. The color looks great, but the bodice is overworked and we just can’t get behind that silly hem.
