We always figured Fleishman in Trouble star Claire Danes had a very Jodie Foster-like approach to the red carpet. She uses fashion well and she uses it consistently, with a nearly innate understanding of how things like publicity and red carpets work. It’s very “child star grows up and avoids all the pitfalls” in a way. A professional’s understanding of the work without the need to shock, follow trends or seek attention. Which is to say that we respect her style, but we’ve rarely found it particularly interesting or exciting. So it’s a bit of a surprise to admit that we think she wore our favorite look at the 2023 Emmys.
It’s got that classical, minimalist style she tends to favor most often, but the back is a pleasant surprise. In our Cosmo piece we said it was the dress equivalent of blowing a kiss over your shoulder as you walk away. Sexy, glamorous, but very elegant. She really looks great. After a year when probably too many pink dresses hit the red carpet, she managed to out-Barbie them all in the most sophisticated of ways.
