You want to hear something funny? Our Cosmo writeup has to be done fairly quickly, which means we only saw one or two pictures of Chappell Roan before writing it up and completely missed her gown’s most important feature. Said feature? Oh, you’ll figure it out:

We truly do not expect a lot of agreement on this one, but we think this is strangely beautiful in a very body-positive sort of way. “Strangely beautiful” is pretty much her style sweet spot, so we appreciate this as an expression of herself. We’ll repeat an often-repeated point: we’re not opposed to sheer dresses at all. We just think the “Here are my panties” ones are stale and unimaginative. When a design considers the body underneath it and how to display it in a way that’s both sensual and proudly confident, we can’t get mad at it. The backpiece is pretty ( the tattoos are part of a sheer piece), but the look works better when she utilizes the cape. Our only critiques: we don’t like that it matches her hair and we think the hem could be longer.
