
Freed from having to campaign for an Oscar, Cynthia Erivo loosened up on her style restrictions and hit the red carpet at the London Critics’ Circle Awards to receive the Derek Malcolm Award for Innovation, recognizing boundary-breaking performances.






So we don’t like the feathers and we think we’d probably have a lot of styling suggestions if anyone else wore this. But after two-plus years of her rigidly sticking to Elphaba cosplay or Wicked branding in her choice of public fashion, we can’t help thinking she must feel at least a little relieved to put all that behind her. The relatively stripped-bare styling feels fresh for her. Maybe if she’d been nominated, we’d still see her out there in black and green gowns every chance she got, but she’s wise to consider it time to put forth something new. We like the short hair.
