FEUD: CAPOTE VS. THE SWANS New York Premiere Red Carpet Rundown

The entire cast of Feud: Capote vs. The Swans came out for the New York premiere in high retro style, which was to be expected. What we didn’t expect was that they’d all coordinate their looks to not only be swan-themed (some more overtly than others), but in tribute to Capote’s iconic 1966 Black and White Ball. Face it: theme dressing on the red carpet is here to stay. We blame Margot.

Beautiful, simple and elegant. It’s interesting to see how this cast embraced the period designs of their characters. Usually, actresses in period dramas are eager to dress in much more modern styles when they’re promoting it. But all of these actresses are well established, so they don’t have to worry about being typecast, and all of them are particularly well-suited to the mid-Century styles of the story.

We are thrilled, however, that Miss Chloe is not sticking entirely to the plan. It’s not that we love the dress so much as we love that she refuses to do cosplay.

We’d like this dress much better if it had a full wrap-around bodice instead of that bib. We’re not mad at the minaudiere, but it just looks dumb to stand there holding it like that.

Can’t argue with that. It’s rare to see a man in a tux at a TV premiere, but then again, it’s also rare to see so many wearing gowns to one. In a way, it was smart of everyone to go this route. Not because it reminds you of the characters but because it punches through all of the awards season jostling and ensures coverage.

Love to see our Gen X princess back on the red carpet. She looks great. Love the wrap. Could’ve done without everything going on at the hem.

It’s insanely gimmicky and way too theme-y, but there’s no denying it’s a dazzling look on her. We realize everything was paid for, but this woman is 61 years old and barely looks forty. Everybody in Hollywood gets work, but very few manage to make it look like they didn’t. Kudos to her team.

Very retro and demure in the manner she seems to prefer. Personally, we think this is one of the more stale designs in this grouping, but she’s well suited to it.

ABOUT THE TV SERIES:
– The second installment in Ryan Murphy’s FEUD anthology, FX’s FEUD: Capote Vs. The Swans is an eight-episode limited series based on the bestselling book Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era by Laurence Leamer.
– Acclaimed writer Truman Capote (Tom Hollander) surrounded himself with a coterie of society’s most elite women – rich, glamorous socialites who defined a bygone era of high society New York – whom he nicknamed “the swans.” Beautiful and distinguished, the group included grande dame Barbara “Babe” Paley (Naomi Watts), Slim Keith (Diane Lane), C.Z. Guest (Chloë Sevigny) and Lee Radziwill (Calista Flockhart). Enchanted and captivated by these doyennes, Capote ingratiated himself into their lives, befriending them and becoming their confidante, only to ultimately betray them by writing a thinly veiled fictionalization of their lives, exposing their most intimate secrets. When an excerpt from the book, Answered Prayers, Capote’s planned magnum opus, was published in Esquire, it effectively destroyed his relationship with his swans, banished him from the high society he so loved and sent him into a spiral of self-destruction from which he would ultimately never recover.
– The series also stars Demi Moore as Ann “Bang-Bang” Woodward, Molly Ringwald as Joanne Carson, Treat Williams as Bill Paley, Joe Mantello as Jack Dunphy and Russell Tovey as John O’Shea.
– Written for television by Jon Robin Baitz, FX’s FEUD: Capote Vs. The Swans was directed by Gus Van Sant, Max Winkler and Jennifer Lynch. The show is executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Alexis Martin Woodall, Baitz, Van Sant, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Naomi Watts, Eric Kovtun and Scott Robertson. It is produced by 20th Television.
