These celebrity ladies hit the red carpet at CNN’s annual Heroes All-Star Tribute sporting pretty much exactly the kind of looks you’re supposed to wear to an event like this. You want to take a decent picture, but you don’t want to confuse this with the kind of self-promotional work that got you invited in the first place. The brief? Appropriate to the venue, but not trying too hard.
Amanda Seyfried in Jason Wu
This is absolutely not as backhanded as it’s going to sound, but we’d call this a standard throw-it-on holiday party dress. If the fit is correct, you really don’t have to do much with it. Just find a pair of matching shoes, make sure your hair and face are in place, and out you go. It’s neither a terrible dress nor a fabulous one. It’s an appropriate, get-it-done dress. We’re not mad at it, but we won’t claim to like it either. Having said that, we think those sleeves are meant to be worn from the shoulder.
Danielle Brooks
It’s a damn shame the fit is snug enough up top to be cutting into her, because this looks spectacular on her, aside from that one issue. The color looks amazing on her.
Iman Vellani in Patou
The outfit’s cute, but we don’t think the head styling works for it at all. The makeup’s a little too dewy and the hair a little too disheveled for such a cute-glam sort of look. Love that bag.
Rachel Zegler in Roberto Cavalli
This is a great dress for her. The styling is low-key, which is fine for the venue, but we think this would look great on her if she really piled on the slap and the accessories it practically begs for. The color looks fantastic on her.
