‘Tis the season for charity gala red carpets, which have been seeing an uptick in celebrity presence in recent months, what with the SAG AFTRA strike shutting most promotional opportunities down for the acting crowd. Not that we’re accusing Miss Lupita of being mercenary about her appearance at the GO Campaign Gala, in support of a non-profit that works to make a difference in the lives of orphaned and other vulnerable children. Having said that, we think she’s definitely using the moment to make a personal statement. After revealing on social media that her recent romance has come to an end and that she’s heartbroken about it, she stepped out looking for all the world like the embodiment of new beginnings.

There’s something almost baptismal about the purity and simplicity of the gown, which might have come off a little too low-key for pictures on its own, but when you pair it with that dramatic and powerful cowrie shell head piece, she’s giving goddess, she’s giving priestess, she’s giving queen.
