King Charles III and Queen Camilla State Visit To France

We’ve never seen fit to highlight Queen Camilla’s style because, well… she doesn’t have any. Most of the time, that is. As we noted before, she has a very clear preference for sack-like shapes without any collars, cuffs or closures. Vestments, we called them. The clothes of a woman who doesn’t like to think too much about her clothes. That’s her prerogative, of course, but for a royal, her style is rather dreary at times. But we had to give a special shoutout to this Dior ensemble she wore to the French state dinner with the Macrons:

Way to go, Cammy! It’s still a sack with almost no embellishments or design elements to speak of (the braid trim is a nicely subtle touch), but the color looks fantastic on her and this ensemble has the one thing almost all of her other ones lack: a true sense of drama. This is this first time we can say she truly looks regal. Of course sporting ten pounds of Queen Elizabeth’s favorite sapphires (a wedding gift from her father George VI) helps quite a bit in that regard. We don’t know if it’s coincidence or planning, but it’s interesting that Mme Macron is sporting the exact same shade of midnight blue. It’s a nice enough gown but the sparkly trim is a little chintzy-looking. Cammy wins this one. It may be the only time she wins a fashion showdown. In related news, the tailoring on Charles’ tux is shockingly bad.
