The Touring Barbies hit the pink carpet at the Sydney fan event where a huge crowd of Barbie fanatics came out to support their local Barbie. The fun in writing about this promo tour is in seeing how many times we can work Barbie into every sentence. Anyway, take it away, Barbie Girls.

We figured we’d give you the full, manic, pink carpet experience instead of the same old stand-and-pose shots. Clearly, the energy was through the roof and the Barbies were having a fabulous time. Everyone looks great. America continues to dress in a non-Barbie manner, which is a great way to stand out. We’re surprised by how much we like the proportions on her outfit. Those pants should not be working for her, but they really do. Greta has such a knack for working the hottest looks of 1990. This is cute and classic and also sets her apart from the stars of the film while adhering to a Barbiefied aesthetic. In other words, this is Millennial Film Director Barbie, if ever Mattel wants to add that archetype to the line. It’s chilly in Sydney right now, so we really appreciate Issa’s colorful, fun, Barbie-adjacent coat. We’d have liked to have seen it worn open, maybe with a cute sweater underneath. And speaking of cute sweaters…

This is head-to-toe vintage ’90s Versace. Part of what has made her appearances on this promo tour so exciting and buzz-worthy is that her stylist Andrew Mukamal has been doing an insanely good job of using high-end names like Versace, Chanel, Moschino and Leger to put together the most insanely on point Barbie looks. This isn’t cosplay, this is fashion. And it does a wonderful job of demonstrating just how much the Barbie aesthetic has been a longstanding influence on mainstream fashion design. In other words, she’s not just promoting the film, she’s using fashion to underscore just how iconic and influential her character actually is. it’s really high-level work and Mukamal should be lauded for it.
