Downtown Owl co-stars Lily Rabe and Vanessa Hudgens braved the newly clear skies of New York City to kick off the Tribeca Film Festival with the premiere of their film.

That is a whole lot of black lace for a summertime film festival premiere. Putting aside how funereal it feels, this comes off a little too formal for Tribeca. It doesn’t help that the design simply isn’t all that great. There’s a way to do a sexy widow look, but this just isn’t it. The style is too twee for it and the overall feel of the frock is kind of a downer.

Cutouts aside, this looks way too heavy for June in New York. We hope she’s got some industrial strength dress shields under there. Still, we can’t hate it. The dress is actually pretty cute (again: cutouts aside) and she’s really well styled for it. Love the hair.
