MET Gala 2023: La Vie en Rose

A bunch of ladies opted for a pink approach to this year’s Met Gala. We could perhaps be bitchy about choosing one of the easier colors to pull off, but the results were surprisingly not great for a lot of them.

She’s shaped like a bottle of perfume, which lends the whole thing a very draggy feel, but as much as we appreciate the exuberance, that satin looks overwrought and overworked to the point of exhaustion.

She’s particularly well-suited to this design, which is sitting just on this side of the “too much” dividing line. We think the hem should be longer. Much as we enjoy the sparkly pink kitty clutch, something a little more sophisticated would’ve helped bring this together better.

If it works at all – and we think it barely does – it’s because she makes everything look innately more dramatic. But really, it’s just some pale pink bedsheets that could really use some diamonds or something to dress them up.

This might be the worst thing she’s ever worn to the Met Gala. It feels like the Ralph Lauren team gave up halfway through the design process and just opted to put a hat on her.

Kate’s whole deal as a model is that she can make any old piece of shit look chic. She’s made a fortune off the skill of not looking like she cares. Her look here is very much in that vein, but it’s still just a nightgown with a sheer cape. That soft, fluffy peach actually looks great on Lila Grace, but the design is hideous.

She could make any old frock look amazing, but we think this is a legitimately gorgeous gown on its own. We’re just happy they found each other because the results are gorgeous.

It’s not our favorite style for her, but she wore this gown in a 2005 Chanel No. 5 short film, which makes it one of the more personal of the tributes. We really hate the styling. This calls for an up-do and silver sandals.

She never fails to make an impression on the Met Gala red carpet, but we’re afraid we can’t sing any praises for this one. It’s a mess of a design. The gloves are kind of cool, but the dress is awful.

She’s been crushing it so much in her promo fashion of late, which makes this somewhat dreary dress a big disappointment. The sheer black overlay ruins the whole thing. Her hair is magnificent, though.

We love the afro and we think the feather bodice is fun in a way, but we don’t think those shapes work well together. It’s a gorgeous color on her.
